Broward County Ethics Referenda

Passage of the Broward County Code of Ethics by the County Commission in August may be the most important change in County government since the adoption of the County Charter.

The Ordinance was the product of the the members of the Ethics Commission and was passed intact be the Commission largely because of one outspoken County Commission and some tenacious board members who "went public" when it appeared than their proposals might be watered down by the Commission.

While the County Code is now in place, the ballot referendum questions ask whether it should also by applied to municipalities and to the Constitutional Officers and whether an Inspector General should be appointed.

To speak about the background and  the passage of the Ethics Code and comment on the referendum questions are two former members of the Ethics Commission: Robert L. Wolfe, Jr. and Robin Rorapaugh.

County Commission District

County Commission District 4 includes much of northeastern Broward County. All three candidates were invited to speak, and the two challengers have accepted.

Unfortunately,  the incumbent, Commissioner and current County Mayor Ken Keechel (D), "could not committ".  The invitation remains open, so perhaps his supporters can encourage him to attend.

The challengers are:

Chip LaMarca (R)

Chris Chiari (I)
