County - City Synergies

Speaker: Mike Moore, Chairman of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance,
Managing Director at COI Access.
Focus: How to fuel, and the benefits of, successful collaboration across city and organizational boundaries.

As metropolitan areas fight to regain ground lost during the economic downturn, the ability to find synergies between governmental entities is proving increasingly crucial. For existing companies to survive and thrive and for new businesses to develop in Broward County a synergistic ecosystem is required. That’s a tall order for 32 very diverse entities who rarely agree on important topics.

Our 31 cities and One County philosophically agree that a cohesive game plan is required to stimulate job creation and economic recovery in the decades ahead. But a ‘one-size-fits-all’ mentality is not the way for the Cities and the County to find a regional approach that builds on the unique strengths of the various communities.  Will local leaders abandon territorial thinking to craft regionally-specific strategies to leverage regional assets for maximum effect?

Surprisingly, we do have a pretty good track record in this area. Exploiting our synergies has resulted in economic development successes, private business partnerships with government entities to promote seaport, airport and convention center growth, workforce development initiatives, and tangible support for academic institutions endeavoring to create the workforce for now and the future.

So we are doing great. Right? Is there more that we can do to leverage our collective assets? Can we rest on our many laurels like the Six Pillars collaborative effort, Broward’s 100 year anniversary celebration, Mission United?

Our speaker on this topic is Mike Moore. Mike is the current chair of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. He is also the Managing Director at COI access.  Mike’s career has focused on ‘profit and performance improvement’ he is paid to show companies how to fine tune the power of their people, processes, technology and infrastructure to achieve their business strategies.

As Chair of the Alliance, with economic development as the #1 priority, Mike has set a platform for county-wide economic growth through the strengths of its cities and the surrounding metropolitan area. He has a great entrepreneurial spirit and the attitude that we all have a responsibility to fuel successful collaboration across city and organizational boundaries.

On Wednesday, March 25, Mr. Moore will tell the Fort Lauderdale Forum audience that the benefits of championing our synergies for innovative economic development ideas to take root, grow and create new jobs are enormous, and he will tell us how he believes this can be accomplished.
